Heck of a movie! (Picture by Yunus Emre KARTAL) January continues to go strong this year! Got in a fantastic movie this week along with plenty of good reading. Can’t complain about that at all. Movies American Hustle - I hadn’t heard a bad word about this movie and I will say that it did not disappoint. Just phenomenally done. It’s yet another super fun heist movie. I didn’t love the voiceovers that were peppered throughout, but otherwise I’d call it a mostly flawless and fun movie. Go see it before it’s out of theaters! ...

TV The Twilight Zone - Somehow I had never seen an episode of The Twilight Zone. Not a one. Lucky for me Katie’s dad and his friend love watching the annual marathon on Syfy. I saw a classic episode or two and I wasn’t totally impressed with the quality of the acting in most episodes, but I was also really taken with the anthology style that’s missing in tv today. Very neat. Makes me want to finish Fringe. ...

Yeah, this has nothing to do with a week summary. In fact, this happened in like…May, but I saw it and I love arepas and it looked so good. Mmmm…arepas… Welcome to the last WIBD of the year! Who doesn’t love novelty tweezers? I’ve gotten really bad at doing these in a timely fashion. Gotta get back up on that horse… Movies Under African Skies - Katie’s favorite album is Graceland and we happened upon a track on the 25th anniversary album where Paul Simon explained how the song was constructed. It really got us in the mood to look for some kind of documentary about the album and, lo and behold, this movie exists and it was on Hulu+. The documentary is fascinating, both politically and musically, and definitely well worth seeing. ...

I really dig the entire ensemble in this show. Lots of talent. (Photo courtesy michelarouca) A nice, relaxing weekend led to plenty of tv getting consumed and a great new show find. Movies Argo - Katie, Min, and I were looking for something action-y, but not too brainy and this is what we (brilliantly) settled on. The flick still holds up after a year, but I found the embassy storming less traumatic the second time (and also separated from Benghazi and watching the movie with people instead of solo) ...

Just adding to my ‘pictures in front of ballparks with Katie’ collection. Man have I been busy! So much has conspired to keep me from getting this out until now between going to Boston and the government shutdown and all kinds of craziness, but no excuses now! We should be back to our regularly scheduled programming from here on out. ...

We were so excited for Katie’s first trip to the Trop. Unfortunately, the game didn’t cooperate… Katie and I had a nice little vacation down in Tampa. Beach time, pool time, Cuban food, and baseball. Why did I come home again? Movies We came close to watching one, but, alas, not last week. TV House of Cards - Not totally loving the Underhill/Zoe Barnes romance still. It doesn’t quite make sense considering that it feels like he’s brought surprisingly little to the table compared to Barnes of late. ...

M&T is almost oppressively purple and it’s kind of awesome. So glad that Katie brought me to this game. Went to my first professional football game with Katie this past Sunday and it was awesome. I wish the Ravens would have dominated by more, but it was really fun to see them ...

The picture’s from the opening year, but I was definitely there this weekend. Movies No, but this week, probably! TV Sherlock - The Chinese banker episode is so bad, comparatively speaking… Breaking Bad - Only watched a few mins in the morning while waiting for Katie. House of Cards - I’m not a fan of the “narration” at all, but a political revenge thriller does sound kind of awesome. ...

Everyone’s favorite, most important book. Not a lot of new stuff going on this week. I kind of hung out, made LP footage, and hung out with Katie at ballgames. Good week. Movies For Richer or Poorer - Katie and Kara chose to watch this 1997 Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley. It’s as terrible as you’d think it is. TV Orange is the New Black - Finished the season. This show was super good. Well worth checking out on Netflix. Well realized, well acted. Very good show. Can’t wait for the next season. ...
