Not Quite ER, But Still Persona [Embedded Reporter]

Jeff Gerstmann and Vinny Caravella venture back into the world of Persona, not to start a new Endurance Run, but to give a taste of what the PSP Persona 3 remake is like.

It's Good to be Nintendo [Game Overview]

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. July was an interesting month for sales. It seems that if your name wasn’t EA or Nintendo, you didn’t even crack the top ten list for game sales. In fact, Nintendo’s month of dominance is even more astounding when you consider that the top sellers included New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart DS, games well past their prime. This tough economy is making it rough to be anyone but Nintendo, but I’m sure that the holiday season will bring other games to the forefront. There’s lots of good stuff in the pipe. ...

BlazBlue, Twitter x WoW, Lucasarts Back Catalog, Ueda vs. Miyamoto, and More [Game Overview]

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. I figured I’d start with BlazBlue today, since the game just came out and I sunk an evening in playing it. I don’t have all that much to say about it yet, but it’s intriguing in a very not Street Fighter way. The fighters are all insanely detailed and designed in an intricately anime fashion, leaving no moe niche unserved and the fighting system is deceptively simple, but actually WAY complicated, as most of these things are nowadays. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to sink into it, especially because Street Fighter IV has nabbed my attention yet again, but I will keep posting impressions as I play. ...

Bold Words [Game Overview]

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. They have to cut the price, because if they don’t, the attach rates are likely to slow", he continues. “If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony…When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console - and the PSP [portable] too. ...

E3 Craziness...Tomorrow [GO]

It’s not quite time for the big E3 blowout, that will come tomorrow. How about some quick bad news: word on the street is that The Beatles: Rock Band will not allow you to play non-Beatles music in it nor will it allow you to transfer Beatles songs out. That’s a pretty serious bummer for me! I love The Beatles as much as the next guy, but the thought of being restricted to only one band’s repertoire is unnecessarily limiting and kind of disappointing. This probably isn’t Harmonix’s fault, but it still stinks. I hope that LEGO Rock Band won’t be similarly crippled. ...

Dark Knight, MGS5 [Filmmakers Bleed/Game Overview]

The Dark Knight I saw The Dark Knight twice on Blu-Ray this week and after three viewings, this movies still undoubtably holds its own as the best movie in the summer and even fits into my top five of all time. What Christopher Nolan did with this movie was incredible, creating a superhero movie that feels decidedly not like a superhero movie (in that nothing that happens in it is that far beyond what you’d see in any action movie), and still retains a sense of cinematic integrity and depth beyond any Batman movie before it (save, perhaps Batman Begins). ...

The Villains of Final Fantasy Week 7 [Game Overview]

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. With every Final Fantasy game there exists great (and not so great) teams of heroes bent on saving the world from some sort of evil force. While we could take a look at those heroes, let’s instead take a look at the evils that motivate these heroes to do what they do. ...

Embedded Reporter: Courage is Solid

Deep from the trenches, it’s time for your Monday video feature: Embedded Reporter. So in just three short days the world will see a simultaneous release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots! Here’s an interesting bit of trivia: MGS2, MGS2: Substance, MG Portable Ops, MGS: The Twin Snakes and MGS3 were all released in North America before they saw release in the Land of the Rising Sun. Another little bit of trivia is that Hideo Kojima prefers the English voice acting over the Japanese voice track. ...
