If you’re trying to find the common thread that weaves all of these games together, don’t keep racking your brain, I’m just covering a ton of different stories and experiences. Tangled Up in Blue Street Fighter IV created within me something of a fighting game…well I hesitate to call it a renaissance, cause there was never a naissance, so to speak, but, should naissance actually be French for birth, it did birth in me the fighting spirit. I haven’t played the game in a while, mostly because I’m trying to save the world and attend high school (Persona 4) at the same time, but I figure I’ll get back to it soon, especially with that new tournament mode in. ...

Oh man! Amazing! Sony finally dropped the price of the…PS2? Yeah, it makes no real sense to me either, at least not when you look at the serious problems that Sony’s been having with the PS3 since launch. Yeah, they’ve got that whole ten-year plan going for the PS2, but one would think that they would, I dunno, refocus their efforts so that they could drive the sales up of their flagship console. ...

Not as much Fat Princess news as I would have liked so far, but we’ve had a lot of Nintendo news hit the wire. First we’ve got the announcement that the SD card slot has finally been unlocked on the Wii, despite Nintendo’s initial, strong reluctance to do so. This will definitely help with storage woes on the system. They also announced a new Zelda game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks. It revolves around trains and appears to be using the Phantom Hourglass engine. Also announced were some DSWare games and a balance board game which interests me so little, I won’t even drop its title. ...

Everyone’s favorite controversial, borderline racist game, Resident Evil 5, is about to hit stores, but the Best Buy in Stroudsburg, PA is not satisfied with just a midnight pre-order pickup. Oh no, they’ve pulled out all the stops to create a store-wide zombie invasion. Not only will the store itself be a haunted house, complete with scientists and zombies, but the US Army will be showing up complete with blanks-firing, but otherwise bona fide M16s, which sounds like a TERRIBLE idea, but still, it should be interesting. ...

I’ve continued to play Street Fighter IV and here are some observations I’ve had about it: Ken is a very popular choice for Ranked Matches and it drives me nuts. I can’t count how many times I’ve been crossed up, crouch hard kicked into a Hadoken and Shoryuken. Luckily, I’ve gotten much better at blocking the combo and I’ve gotten better and ending the cross up with a simple Cannon Spike with Cammy. It’s mega-frustrating to see player after player just pick Ken over and over and it’s kind of fatiguing. As a counter-measure, I’ve decided to wait out timers if I ever have someone pick Ken on me. From what I hear on Giant Bombcast, it seems that the Player Matches are a little more varied than this lame Ken-fest I’m facing. I guess once I hit ten straight victories I’ll start playing Player Matches. ...

Deep from the trenches, it’s time for your Monday video feature: Embedded Reporter. One of my favorite games from the current era has finally had its sequel announced :cough: last week :cough:, and I must say I’m pretty excited about it. It features our favorite protagonist, Nathan Drake, treating us all to his trademark, characteristic wit while finding himself in a bit of a bind. Blink and you’ll miss the whole teaser, but it’s still pretty cool and good looking and I can’t wait until Naughty Dog puts the finishing touches on this guy. Unfortunately, my guess on that date will be next fall videogame rush… ...

The Dark Knight I saw The Dark Knight twice on Blu-Ray this week and after three viewings, this movies still undoubtably holds its own as the best movie in the summer and even fits into my top five of all time. What Christopher Nolan did with this movie was incredible, creating a superhero movie that feels decidedly not like a superhero movie (in that nothing that happens in it is that far beyond what you’d see in any action movie), and still retains a sense of cinematic integrity and depth beyond any Batman movie before it (save, perhaps Batman Begins). ...

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about it, but I’m still very excited for Valkyria Chronicles. I promised my family that I wouldn’t make any purchases until after Christmas (not that I should be making any at this point), so I have to wait until at least then to hope that I get what promises to be a sweet looking video game. Enjoy the video review. We shall see if it’s as good as it’s claimed to be by people like Shane Betenhousen and the PA guys. ...

Been playing Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic first-person RPG epic Fallout 3 this weekend and I’m quite pleased with it so far. Here are some quick thoughts about random things that stick out: The game is very buggy. Apparently this was a problem with Oblivion too. I’ve gotten a few hard freezes that I was able to start mostly avoiding just by updating my graphics card drivers, but still…I shouldn’t be having this much problem playing a game that’s been approved for final release. ...
