Best Video Games of the Decade [Game Overview]

You may notice some games that are missing from this list and are on every other list. Well, I didn’t play everything because I didn’t have the time or the money, so that accounts for some of the big misses like Pyschonauts or Resident Evil 4. Other games are deliberately omitted :cough: HALO :cough: This list is also way long, but I didn’t want to limit myself to an arbitrary number like 10 or 20, so here it is: ...

No MLB Power Pros 2009 [GO]

I think we can officially call it right here: MLB Power Pros 2009 is not coming to the states. By this point last year we already knew that the 2008 edition was launching in July past the All-Star game. On the other hand, we didn’t know about the first one until about September or October, so I still had some hope. Until I saw this post on Kotaku. What a shame that 2K is missing a tremendous opportunity to publish a great game that people in the US do actually love. ...

Grand Slam: Game 1 (and 0) Results

I know I promised you some simulated game results to go along with my post-game analysis, but as I booted up MLB Power Pros 2008 and started to rearrange the final team rosters, it quickly became apparent to me that I would be much better served just waiting until we had World Series teams so I’d only have to do two (for those of you playing at home, I only managed to set up the Red Sox before I gave up). ...

Game Overview: MLB PP 2k8 The Alaska Yetis

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. Maybe not the most interesting edition of GO for you readers, but I’ve finally completed my MLB PP team and played quite a few games as them. As of right now, I’m not doing so hot, with a 6-9 win/loss record to make the Alaska Yetis look bad sitting five games back in the NL East (behind the Braves, Phillies, Mets, and Marlins (in that order), but ahead of the Nationals). Why NL East when Alaska is clearly a western state? I love the NL East and that’s where I recognize the most players, so that’s where I wanted to play. I shuffled the Pittsburgh Pirates out to AL Central and added another expansion team, the Hawaii Samurai, to balance out my expansion team. ...

Uncat: Back!

Well readers, I’m finally back from Florida where my friends are getting married and so I thought I’d let you know a little bit about upcoming coverage on the site. While I was down in Tampa I managed to get myself out to a Rays game against the Tigers courtesy of my younger brother. I’ve been to Tropicana Field before, but not since the name/uniform change, so it was good to see the stadium again. Expect a stadium review (the first of many) tomorrow with the sports update. ...

Wednesday Morning Quarterback: Light News

You’ve probably heard the saying that hindsight is 20/20 on Monday morning, so just imagine how well I can call ’em two days later on Wednesday. That’s right, it’s time for Wednesday Morning Quarterback, your weekly sports round-up. Having spent a good portion of this last week away from televisions, I don’t have much to say regarding the sports world, so here’s a few different quick things: Marlins are still a game back in the NL East, tied with the Mets behind the Phillies. The Mets and Phillies are playing each other in a series, which the Marlins can hopefully capitalize on by not losing to the Braves again tonight. ...

Grand Slam: The MLB All-Star Game

This will be in a sort of liveblog fashion. First off, let me state that I hope we’ll get a NL win this year, I’m so tired of seeing the NL lose to those AL jerks… Lineup announcements: Slight cheering in the NL until they reach Mets players, then booing. How great is that? In AL, booing at the Red Sox players. Yankees fans can do something right, I guess? If only I can get them to boo the Yankees too. ...

Embedded Reporter: New Announcements, New Details

Deep from the trenches, it’s time for your Monday video feature: Embedded Reporter. Two videos for your viewing pleasure today. The first is the debut trailer for a port of one of my favorite games of all time, Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger DS is (kind of unfortunately, I want a sequel) a direct port with an added dungeon, wireless battle capability, and two-screen utilization, but the changes have yet to be seen. ...

Game Overview: WiiWare, MLB Power Pros 2008

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. WiiWare In a move that is still very confounding to me, Nintendo launched the WiiWare service this week with not even as much as a message in our collective Wii inboxes to tell us about the new game service. Of course, most game enthusiasts knew about it right away, but you’ve got to wonder if maybe publicizing the event a bit might have increased sales, right? Anyway, the WiiWare launch brought a bunch of games in the Xbox Live! Arcade and PSN fashion to the system including Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King. ...
