Attendance Drops a Bit: Yesterday's Scores That Matter [WMQ]

[caption id="" align=“aligncenter” width=“500” caption=“Last night’s attendance was less than half. I guess that’s what happens when Strasburg’s not pitching.”] [/caption] Pittsburgh debuted some rookies last night too. The Nationals crowd of about 18,000 was not impressed. 10 June NPB Chunichi Dragons (7) at Rakuten Eagles (2). Wei-Yin Chen Tossed six scoreless with five strikeouts as the Dragons got revenge. Rakuten’s record slides to 29-31-1 in fifth. ...

Abe Is My Homeboy: Yesterday's Scores That Matter [WMQ]

[caption id="" align=“aligncenter” width=“375” caption=““Honest” Abe and I fist bumping”] [/caption] For some reason Abe has become my favorite of the racing presidents. Maybe it’s his arrogant stride or maybe it’s the way he’s a sore loser when he doesn’t win, but I just love everything about the persona they’ve crafted for #16. 09 June NPB Chunichi Dragons (1) at Rakuten Eagles (4). Satoshi Nagai hurls eight innings of eight hit ball, miraculously only giving up one run. Nice work, Nagai. Rakuten’s record improves to 29-30-1, tied for fourth. ...

Basically... [Uncat]

Last year Min ruined my life by telling me that “basically”, “essentially”, and their synonymous brethren were big no-nos in the debate world because they’re often used as filler words with little to no meaning. Already sensitive about the fact that I say “like” too much, I now had one more thing to worry about and one more thing to notice in other people’s speech patterns. Thanks Min. It’s like when you realize that you don’t control your blinking, then you take control of it until you forget about it, only I never forget. ...

I Can't Defeat Air Man [ER]

PS: It’s in Japanese. Trust me, it’s better that way. I love it, so J-Pop. PPS: Air Man is not really that hard. Wood Man is even easier. If you really want it in English:

Strasburg [Wednesday Morning Quarterback]

[caption id="" align=“aligncenter” width=“500” caption=“Strasburg-mania was in full force last night.”] [/caption] It’s the debut everyone was talking about, Stephen Strasburg, and I was there. Seated near the field, just past first base, I had a chance to really see the vertical break on his pitches and their effects on batters. 4-Seam Fastball This is the one everyone has heard of. Strasburg regularly broke 100 mph with his pitches in college. Then he signed with Washington and was throwing in the mid-90s all through AA and AAA. He had to either be lulling the competition into a false sense of security or just working on the rest of his arsenal, because his 98-102 fastball was back in full force last night. Hitters were completely embarrassed by it, no one could keep up, and I couldn’t move my eyes fast enough half the time. It’s that good. ...

14 Ks! [WMQ]

After two shaving cream pies, Strasburg got the silver Elvis wig for his game performance too. I’ll have a more detailed analysis about Strasburg’s start, but 14 strikeouts is not bad at all. Seven of those came in a row from the 5th to 7th innings. An impressive young pitcher. 08 June NPB Neither of my teams played. MLB New York Yankees (12) at Baltimore Orioles (7). My friends asked me to go to this game with them, but I couldn’t pass up seeing Strasburg. I’m surprised the Os scored so many, but it wasn’t enough for the Yankee juggernauts. Their record falls to 16-42. ...

Boring Day: Yesterday's Scores That Matter [WMQ]

[caption id="" align=“aligncenter” width=“500” caption=“This is what I think happens to Min after reading these baseball posts.”] [/caption] Only the NPB had games (as far as teams I care about) yesterday, leaving me with little to do but think about how excited I am to see Strasburg pitch today and hear about Stanton’s performance in Philadelphia. Can’t wait until tonight. Until then… ...

Switch [ER]

If you’re seeing this, it means I failed, yet again, to get another Heroes of Final Fantasy post done. Thankfully, you can watch this great animated short by Tyson Hesse instead. I’d even say that this is a far better fate for you than my work.

Swept By the Mets: The Weekend's Scores That Matter [WMQ]

[caption id="" align=“aligncenter” width=“500” caption=“The old Shea home run apple. I hate this thing.”] [/caption] My friend Lee has somehow got his girlfriend into baseball, probably by pure force of will. This would be great, except she’s a Mets fan now and she loves to trash talk each time the Mets beat the Marlins. Thanks, Lee. 4 June NPB Softbank Hawks (4) at Hiroshima Carp (5). A huge fourth inning, including two RBIs by Eric Stults, puts Hiroshima just far enough ahead to win the game. ...
