The Show Returns [Wednesday Morning Quarterback]

You’ve probably heard the saying that hindsight is 20/20 on Monday morning, so just imagine how well I can call ’em two days later on Wednesday. That’s right, it’s time for Wednesday Morning Quarterback, your weekly sports round-up. Baseball season is back and exciting as ever! Talk about first day surprises though. Who would have guessed that C.C. Sabathia would be pounded by the O’s? Who could have expected that Griffey would hit another opening day homer? Or that the Marlins would pound the Nats? Ok…that one was a bit more predictable… ...

6 April Web Gems and SportsCenter! [WMQ]

Sadly no mention of the Marlins’ amazing inside the park homer nor the grand slam. On the other hand, who doesn’t love great defensive plays instead of homers? SportsCenter got it a little better with not one, but two Marlins plays in there, both by Bonifacio. Good stuff all around though.

Punch-Out [Embedded Reporter]

Deep from the trenches, it’s time for your Monday video feature: Embedded Reporter. Punch-Out is on it’s way back and everyone’s excited for it. How about a video montage and a comparison across its history. Ah, Punch-Out…reminding everyone that racial stereotypes are funny…

SC Top 10 [WMQ]

I’ve discovered that these top plays seem to only stay active for a few days, at the most. I guess I don’t blame ESPN, their bandwidth requirements would be ridiculous. I’m gonna have to think about whether or not I continue this based on the fact that before the week is up I’ve already got posts with dead videos. Only one baseball highlight in here, despite the fact that there were tons more (and better) highlights from these pre-season games. It’s cool, starting Sunday and Monday, we’ll see a lot more of baseball highlights. ...

SportsCenter 03 April 2009 [WMQ]

Put me down as someone who hates Basketball highlights. Really, what’s all that interesting about a dunk? Sometimes they get the highlights right and have spectacular shots or blocks, but dunks in general aren’t all that interesting. That being said, the two-balls-at-once dunk in today’s top 10 was pretty cool. For my money, though, the top play of the past few days was today’s #1, featuring a falling goal in ice hockey. ...

The Villains of Final Fantasy Week 12 [Game Overview]

Insert another credit, because it’s time for your weekly video game news and you’ve just hit the Game Overview screen. With every Final Fantasy game there exists great (and not so great) teams of heroes bent on saving the world from some sort of evil force. While we could take a look at those heroes, let’s instead take a look at the evils that motivate these heroes to do what they do. ...

Not Much [WMQ]

Not much interesting to say about today. We’ve got a few things and we’ll combine in some highlights. Gary Sheffield was released from the Tigers. Not altogether a bizarre move, but definitely unexpected. Unimpressive hitting last season and this spring combined to motivate the Tigers to instead field more defensively able players on their field. He’ll probably be picked up on the cheap somewhere, so no worries there. Not quite sports, but only the heartless can’t appreciate adorable hadokens into babies. ...

Almost Time... [Wednesday Morning Quarterback]

You’ve probably heard the saying that hindsight is 20/20 on Monday morning, so just imagine how well I can call ’em two days later on Wednesday. That’s right, it’s time for Wednesday Morning Quarterback, your weekly sports round-up. We’ve finally arrived at the last WMQ before the baseball season. Congrats are in order for us all, but I honestly don’t know how we made it so long without our beloved baseball. Here are a few quick notes about things that have been going on: ...

30 March 2009 Web Gems [WMQ]

Everyone loves web gems, it’s an immutable fact of life. In honor of that fact, I’d like to start posting the gems of the day on the blog as often as I can, hopefully daily. I have no idea if ESPN will keep these videos up beyond this season, but until then, hopefully plenty of people will get the chance to enjoy these great plays. My favorite from today’s batch: without a doubt, Torii Hunter’s diving catch TOWARD THE WALL(!) and Evan Longoria’s smooth, clean fielding of a ball in what could even be shortstop territory. ...
